From SWILwiki
If nobody objects to it, I'm going to designate this page as "real life events" and SWILwiki:Community Portal as "wiki events". Of course, that would leave this page mostly empty, but I think it's better than redundancy. I'll give y'all a couple weeks to object. -Jillian 14:24, 10 Sep 2006 (EDT)
- I'll go ahead and state my lack of objection. --Michael Noda 21:16, 11 Sep 2006 (EDT)
Google Calendar
So, this page hasn't been updated in forever. And no wonder; it's a pain. I don't think, given what we've seen, that we can reasonably expect manual updating to keep this page in a useful state.
For the last few months or so, I've been engaging in an experiment to keep a Google Calendar (https://www.google.com/calendar/render) of events posted to the fun list. I've been updating it sporadically, and I think that the concept has proved sound, if not my ability to maintain it alone. Fortunately for me and everyone else, I don't have to. So, today, I'm opening up this calendar. I'm scrapping the manual update system here, and embeddinglinking to the Google Calendar here, with subscription links and documentation. If you want to edit it, let me know. You'll need a Google account, but that's not a high barrier; if you need an invite, e-mail me and ask; I've got 50.
I am very open to discussions on all aspects of this calendar's use. It is not fully formed, and I do think that it it has much evolving to do before it becomes a regularly used thing. There are many aspects to consider, and I expect that I've thought of only few of them. I'll have opinions, but I don't want any privileged position for those opinions just because they're mine.
I apologize for any disruption this may cause, and I doubly apologize to the Presidents for any appearance of dumping a fait accompli on them; such is very much not my intent. I do not wish to hamstring SWIL's use of this or any other calendaring resource in any way, nor do I wish to do any other harm, but I hope that people find this useful, and things tend to get done because people do them. Worse comes to worst, we can just take this down and salt the earth and be back where we are, which is not a bad place to be. --Michael Noda 04:36, 15 Feb 2007 (EST)
