Ravenous Bug-blatter Beast of Traal 

Monster name: Ravenous Bug-blatter Beast of Traal

Current status: retired

The Ravenous Bug-blatter Beast is so mind-bogglingly stupid that it thinks that if you can’t see it, it can’t see you. It was, therefore, a good idea to avoid it completely unless the hunter approached with a towel wrapped around his head, in which case the Beast stood blinking stupidly while the hunter raided its lair. The lair, in its first incarnation, was one of the basement stairwells behind Parrish, and the Beast guarded all manner of goodies therein—garlic, silver daggers, etc. There were three "official" hunt towels, but naturally hunters started raiding their bathrooms once the secret got out, and soon enough the Beast was irrelevant.

It was amusing watching towel-blinded hunters stagger around, though.

Evolution and History

The Ravenous Bug-blatter Beast of Traal was originated in 1990 by jere7my.

A list of "Retired Monsters", dated in or before 2000, gives the following description: 

THE REVENOUS BUG-BLADDER BEAST OF TRAAL-A hideous monster that kills
quite cleanly.  It cannot be killed, and kills by merely looking at you.
It never leaves its treasure hoard, however, and is
remarkable dumb.  In fact, it thinks that if you can't see
it, it can't see you.

The Ravenous Bug-Blatter Beast of Traal was retired after the '94 Hunt. Traditionally, its lair was on the North Side of Parrish, but that year North Campus was under large amounts of construction (tearing down Parrish Annex and building Kohlberg), so the Hunt took place almost entirely South of Parrish. Unfortunately, one element was north of Parrish -- the RBBBoT. Joe spent a very lonely evening hunkered down in his lair that year, as only 2 or 3 hunters ventured out to find him.
