Evolution and History

The Kraken was first proposed by Ben Newman upon experimenting with "flails", weapons made of large fans of thin foam strips that bent and flexed far more than ordinary foamswords on impact. It was determined that while flails' bending gave them less reach than a sword, they were much more difficult to block, and hence were not necessarily strictly more powerful than a sword but did make battles more interesting. Ben went on to propose a Kraken, a monster that would primarily be armed with "foam tentacles", perhaps with huge bundles of them on each arm, or, even better, a small group of four or five that would wander as a unit (akin to the Hydra) all wielding bundles of foam tentacles. They would have an ordinary garbage-bag target area that would serve as the Kraken's head.

While this idea was much simpler and more straightforward than most half-baked ideas that pop up on the Hunt list, it was, perhaps for this reason, a lot less prone to generating bursts of enthusiasm, and thus far there hasn't been enough energy to seriously implement the Kraken as a monster.
